Registered Migration Agents

How to find and verify a migration agent

A Registered Migration Agent can provide immigration assistance. Always verify an agent on the official OMARA Register before paying for or relying on their services.

01

Search the register

Search by name, business, location or Migration Agent Registration Number (MARN).
02

Check registration

Open the agent's record and confirm their registration is current and their details match.
03

Read the agreement

Understand the services, professional fees, government charges, disbursements and refund terms before signing.
04

Keep records

Keep the service agreement, invoices, receipts, advice, application copies and correspondence.

Use the official OMARA Register

The register shows an agent's name, MARN, business and registration status. A business website or social profile is not a substitute for this check.

Who can provide immigration assistance?

OMARA states that only a Registered Migration Agent, an Australian legal practitioner or an exempt person can lawfully provide immigration assistance in Australia. Exempt persons must not charge a fee for that help.

Education agents, recruiters, employers, friends and community members are not automatically authorised to provide immigration assistance. A person claiming to be registered should be checked against the live register.

You do not have to use a migration agent to lodge a visa application. Using one does not guarantee a visa grant or faster processing.

Before you appoint an agent

Confirm the agent's identity and current MARN.
Check any disciplinary information shown by OMARA.
Ask what work is included, who will do it and how updates will be provided.
Separate professional fees from government charges and other costs.
Never sign a blank form or provide false information or documents.

Request an independent referral

You can ask to be contacted by an independent Registered Migration Agent. Australia Visa Information does not assess eligibility or advise which visa to choose.
