Citizenship by conferral is a common pathway for permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens. Most adult applicants must meet residence, character and knowledge requirements, but age, incapacity and other circumstances can change which process applies.
The Department provides an eligibility pathway, residence calculator, citizenship test material, fee information and application instructions. Those official tools should be checked before an application is started.
